Don’t like feelings? Then you’ll struggle with these things

None of us like negative feelings.

We all instinctively and intuitively move away from whatever is uncomfortable, painful and makes us feel anxious.

So, when it comes to negative feelings, we often push them away, don’t notice or relate to them, ignore them if we notice them, bury them deep or hide away from them with activity (look at our phones, work for long periods of time, eat, drink or smoke things).

If you do this (and we all do some of these), then you’ll struggle with:

  • Connecting emotionally with your partner (because you can’t give to someone what you don’t have yourself)

  • Connecting with yourself (who you are, what your life is about, and what you should be doing with your life)

  • Your thinking brain gets stuck in overthinking, overanalysing, and trying to problem-solve feeling problems with logic.

  • Feeling nothing much or feeling dull and lifeless (you have pushed away feelings, so you don’t feel the positive or the negative ones)

  • Living in a black-and-white world instead of experiencing a wide range of technicolour
